Black Looks Nominated for Best Blog Award

On October 24, 2006 / By Imnakoya / In Activism, Advocacy, Africa, Blogosphere, Nigeria

To those unaware of this rare feat in the African Blogosphere, Sokari Ekine’s Black Looks, has been nominated for the [tag]Best of Blogs’ Award[/tag] under the Best Weblog / English category. That the blog is deserving of this honor is an absolute statement of fact. And the blog’s doing pretty well in the polls; just 3 points short of taking the lead! So Vote if you have not!

Lession for all

If there is one thing Sokari does well – aside from taking some hardliner postures on issues she strongly belives in – is her generosity with links.

Sokari links to other blog postings with ceaseless passion, thereby amplying the issue by adding her voice to the discussion. And this simple but strategic move is crucial to the effectiveness of the African blogosphere as a medium for advocacy, entertainment and general information dissemination. This trait is also made manifest in her activities with Global Voices Online, Pambazuka News, Nigerian Village Square, and African Women Bloggers.

In this era of Web 2.0, ‘meme tracking’ and overwhelming blogospheric cacophony, we all should take a cue from Sokari’s Black Looks by linking to relevant blogs in our spheres of interest and generally put our links to a more effective use. Afterall, what are blogs without links?
