Re: Blogging for Darfur

November 23rd, 2006  |  Published in Activism, Blogosphere, Darfur, Sudan  |  1 Comment

It appears this seemingly harmless post: “Blogging for Darfur“, has ruffled some feathers based on the comments it has received from one of the organizers that goes by the name/handle Esra’a.

While the Esar’a has done a good job of drawing some attention to the collaborative nature of the project - giving the impression that this wasn’t made clear enough in the post - she has also ventured to portray how a good cause as “We blog for Darfur” can easily be derailed by some attention-seeking cravings of project collaborators.

The core of the post is obvious, I think:

  • Building collaboration to pursue a good cause.
  • And some (unsolicited) suggestions on expanding the content base by doing round-ups of blogs with relevant contents on Darfur and extending coverage to the African media and blogosphere.

So why would someone totally deviate from these and focus on something else?

After making changes to the post and apologizing for my errors, I really don’t know what else is left to do.

My suggestion to this Esra’a character and others in the “Mideast Youth” clan that share the same mindset as her: Get off your self-serving high horses, roll up your selves, and work hard together to achieve your goals. The project is a worthy cause and don’t screw it up by being petty!
