Time’s Person of the Year: You

December 21st, 2006  |  Published in Blogosphere, ICT, Media, Technology, Web 2.0  |  8 Comments

To the millions of web-content mongering fanatics, geeky web 2.0 aficionados, web-based activists/advocates, bloggers and general members of “Citizen Media” Inc, the year 2006 is for you. You are Time’s Person of the Year.

I hope the African mainstream media turns a new leaf this coming year…the world is fast leaving them behind, and their readers too!

African mainstream media turn a new leaf? WE are the African mainstream media. Most of the ‘mainstream’ media companies here in South AFrica aren’t even owned by Africans apart from a BEE deal or 2.0.

Wow. I feel elated. You mean I am the Time’s Person of the year? So my works, creativity and time has finally been appreciated.

    Congratulations to all.

Ain’t it great! Not only did Time Magazine honor bloggers (authors and readers) around the world but so did Businessweek earlier this year. The World Economic Forum just awarded Technorati a 2007 Technology Pioneer award for their work to support the blogosphere.

Gosh, what are we gonna do for 2007?? Will it (the blogosphere) all collapse or do you thing we are on a roll here? Today we take New York, tomorrow the World!!

BRE: While I do not know what tomorrow holds for the blogosphere, it sure feels good that the big boys - who have always dominated this sector - are not only paying attention, but acknowledging the impact of new media. My guess is that 2007 will present a tremendous opportunity for participatory media, particularly for content aggregation and social network platforms. Yeah, it sure feels good!

[…] As I stated in an earlier post, Citizen - or participatory - media as a global phenomenon has achieved a socio-cultural and political impact on an unprecedented scale, and so ground-breaking is this impact that the Time magazine has tagged kindred spirits like Cegiue - a burgeoning mass of new media information brokers - “The 2006 Person of the Year“.
