Reuters Africa

On February 22, 2007 / By Imnakoya / In Africa, Blogosphere, Media

The African blogosphere just got a big boost from one of the major global news agencies: [tag]Reuters[/tag].

Reuters Africa is a new commercial website dedicated to pan-African news and financial data, according to a press release from the news agency. The site features “an interactive map to access local Reuters news across the continent, organized by country”, as well as country-specific blogs via Global Voices (GV), a non-profit global citizens’ media project, sponsored by and launched from the Berkman Center for Internet and Society at the Harvard Law School.
It gladdens my heart that the mainstream media is finding ways to acknowledge the existence of African/Afrocentric bloggers, and showcase their stuff, appropriately. Hat tips to the good men and women of GV; I met several members of this group in India last December, and probably will meet some again in Arusha, Tanzania (TED conference) later in the year.

As a dormant member of the GV (all I could muster was some 10 posts, how pathetic!), it’s my hope that this development will encourage more contributors from sub-Saharan Africa region; Ndesanjo Macha is the editor in charge, those interested may contact him.

  1. Thank you for this link. You have been very active with your blogging these past few days!

  2. Imnakoya:

That is much welcomed news. Reuters Africa does a wonderful job of covering Africa. They also have a television magazine that I enjoy watching on the Africa Channel, so to see them cover Africa blogs via
Global Voices is icing on top of the cake!

Did you know that Ndesanjo Macha was the person that basically taught me what a blog is and where to go to start one and etc..? Big ups Mr. Macha and great job over at GV!

  3. Don, the mercury is rising, so my blood is warming up! That’s why.

Benin: Hat tip to Ndesanjo, cool chap!
