Yar’adua Goodluck ‘Talk to Us’ Forum Site: www.yaraduagoodluck.info

On March 18, 2007 / By Imnakoya / In Democracy, Governance, Links, Nigeria

Got this email today from the Yar’Adua/Jonathan Campaign Team:

Dear Imnakoya

I thought you might like to know that Governors Umar Yar’adua and
Goodluck Jonathan recently decided they wanted to engage with ordinary
Nigerians and hear their opinions directly. So they launched the Yar’adua
Goodluck ‘Talk to Us’ web site www.yaraduagoodluck.info

It is a useful way to find out about the Issues that are important to
the candidates. And, because it allows members voice their opinions on
how the issues can be resolved, it lets you see how ordinary Nigerians
feel about these issues too. So I think it will be of interest to your
readers.

The ideas behind this site are probably a first for an African
democracy. And it represents a departure from old-style Nigerian politics.

By telling your readers about our web site you will be contributing to
the development of democracy in Nigeria. On behalf of his Excellency I
thank you in anticipation of this.

Yar’adua Goodluck ‘Talk to Us’ Forum Site Team

  1. Much too late, I daresay. Good concept, poor timing — not too surprising…

  2. I am not sure whether this presidential campaign is the first time that the internet has played a major role in a democratic election in Africa or not. Certainly this is not the first website to appear from a candidate in this presidential race, though.

  3. You should know how it is: first you cook the food before lighting the stove.
What gives us the assurance things wouldn’t be done haphazardly if they get to the throne? This one that they can’t simply organise their campaign. How lofty it shall be to lead a nation.

  4. i am a die in the wool supporter of yar’adua.pls i want to know why yar’adua campaign organisation don’t want to take advantage of atiku’s negative comments aganist the judiciary in 2004 after boni haruna’s electoral tribunal jugement.
i want to see that his statement make head lines.

  5. Okeke: Thanks for the comment, but you are asking your question in the wrong place. The Yar’Adua’s website is the best place for this.

  6. I pray that God should help you both and fulfil your dreams to be the President of this Nation called Niferia. Please think twice that you are call to server the nation, remember to serve the nation with honest and loyality….You should also fulfil your promise to the citizens, think about the old age people. We all have little time to live in this world that is why we need to live peacefuly….My people are suffering and Nigeria is rich enough to provide social amenities for the citizens…..For me all i ever want you to do for the nation is the problem of power energy supply.

  7. CONDUCTING AN ELECTION IN NIGERIA

What does it takes for one to conduct an election in Nigeria that all of us will be proud of? INEC cannot do it alone. To have a free and fair election in this nation will be very difficult.

How do boxes snatched by thugs returned to the poling/collating centre to be counted? I do not have answer to this.

The attempt to gulp the INEC headquarters by petrol tanker. Can any reasonable person think what it has caused by such thing happening in the office where you are working? At the hour of 4am in the morning, probably there was a logistic problem that came up which the staff will be trying to address and all of a sudden, as a staff you heard that a tanker that was about to explode the building in which you are ‘has caught fire’ outside the premises? The implication of this is that your adrenalin will shut up. The logistic problem you are about to fix will be put aside, and other precautionary steps will have to be taken to the detriment of the entire energy you have to rectify the issue at hand.

In a nuclear home, to get everyone have the same good outcome takes the mercy of God. Else it turns to another thing entirely, bliss or a war zone. To manage people is one of the most difficult things to do, why? Because, people’s attitude cannot be read like a metre.

So when someone is carrying out a function that has this type of characteristics; there is need for any analyst to have this at the back of his/her mind in analysis.

I participated in Census 2006 I know what it takes to a little extent. And in this case where there was no much momentary attachment in the exercise it tediousness is only good to be imagined. GOD help Nigeria.

One of the issue we as a nation has to rectify is building a good data base of the citizen of this country. National ID card project suppose to initiate this but the peculiarities of what Nigeria has acquired make this to fail.

Nigeria has a peculiar problem and that is PATRIOTISM, when this is missing in a nation like Nigeria to the extent it is now, things will be difficult to work as expected. When you compare a nation’s development start with this.

But there is hope. Change does not come easy but it will come anyway.

Parties, who accused that election is rigged, allowed the rigging via their agent. So they should blame themselves for recruiting unpatriotic agent to represent their party. Because the reason why agent are involve in the polling activities is to checkmate the other party’s activities. Is not all agent compromised at gun point but at N10,000.00 and they will justify what happen that they were at gun point that was why they give in.

Most times all party rigged, but one rigged than the other. The one that did not do much will then be doing as if he is the angel.

Another problem with Nigeria politics is greed, no alliance is form. And I think this a ploy by the ruling party to always keep them divided, because when they are together, they can give a good fight. If actually theses parties have Nigeria in mind and they see that the nation is going on the part of PDP that is bad, then why can’t they give up their personal ambition to support the party that have the same ideology since the ruling party is seen as evil. But GREED, GREED, GREED, GREED, GREED and lack of patriotism is the sickness that God has to help us cure for this nation to move forward.

For INEC officials there are something which they did that are wrong but it is in our human makeup to be commended in whatsoever we do. So they seek the kudos but somehow something came up to deny them such.

Those who criticize destructively should look critically how they managed personal situation in their own life. Be in the shoe of INEC and let’s see how you will perform. With this, I am not justifying the thing that got wrong in the cause of getting things done by INEC, but rather looking at the situation as one that will not be aspire by whoever is been given the responsibility.

I was watching the Election programme in a TV station in which correspondents from different states called in to give situation report of the election in their stations. In the cause of trying to contact a correspondent, a problem arise as a result of connectivity problem. Some call in without this hitch. I was seeing something as this aroused. But most of the guest in the studio at that time was criticizing the conduct of election by INEC and not seeing that they (INEC) also face similar (in most instance terrible) situation of not being able to accomplish a desire task. I do not blame them because that is what their mind is fixed on at that time. This is what I saw; the correspondent in the field has a mission: to send situation report of what is happening in his/her zone, but in the cause of doing this, there (options) was bad signal, poor audio quality or the network was breaking. This is a challenge being faced and whoever encounter this will have to muster extra strength of finding a way out, if he could, given the strength he/she has both in terms of support (moral & financial). These situations which aroused are not created by them (correspondent/ INEC) but it so happened to mare their goal.

Our Press should help builds patriotism for this nation.

I heard a human right activist say on air (the day Supreme Court gave the judgment before it) that INEC should allow armed robbers or whoever to be allowed to contest; they should only be disqualified by the voting of the electorate. This looks daunting.

    GOD BLESS NIGERIA!!!

  8. Nigerian aren’t Fools..

We are mibilising and very soon you people will be served at the aproperiate time.
