Nigeria FRSC: Practice What You Preach! - Citizen Media at it’s Best!

June 9th, 2007  |  Published in Africa, Media  |  4 Comments

A Nigerian fellow blogger posts about how a passerby took some pictures depicting the inefficacies of one Nigerian parastatal, sent them to a major newspaper, which then publishes the pictures. This blogger saw the publication and and uses it in his blog. The process goes a full circle…citizen or participatory media (journalism) couldn’t have been more perfect.

This is the current trend in information dissemination and practice by western news media. And it is the inevitable future of news media in Africa…Several Nigerians have cameras on their mobile phones - only if they knew how empowered they are! All they need is some enabling environment to report on issues and events as they unfold. Think of the last election fiasco in Nigeria, police receiving bribes or brutality, incidences of sexual harassments, etc. The possibilities are endless…extremely fascinating as well. Whoever jumps in the mud and makes this happen will smile to the bank…[tag]AfricanLoft[/tag]?
