Why is it called "bar" beach? Is it because there are sandbars in front of it?

I visited Bar Beach in 2006 with my daughter to show off the beautiful, serene and fun beach of my childhood days. What a shock I had. First I was accosted by some hoodlums (area boys) who demanded i pay them "ground fees",I ignored this. When I got to the beach, I was so sad, for alas it was dirty, and the general atmosphere was unsavoury. My daughter had to run for dear life as we were chased by these men. Yes Lagos government should do something. Lagos especially is quickly turned into a shanty town, in almost all areas, and this is a crying shame.
