Ondo State: Who is zooming who?

June 20th, 2008  |  Published in Democracy, Governance, Nigeria, elections  |  4 Comments

Every now and then I read media statements from the PDP-controlled government of Ondo state that makes me wonder why the governor and his media gurus have taken the people for fools.

Let’s start with this report from Tribune:

Ondo State government on Thursday alleged that the non-accessibility of the governorship candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Dr. Olusegun Mimiko, has been causing ripples in the party.

A statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr. Yemi Olowolabi, said the LP’s candidate had gone underground due to his inability to meet his obligations to his sponsors.

In its characteristic manner, the Labour Party responded: “The statement a figment of the imagination of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).”

If the events in the last seven days are anything to go by in Ondo state, the PDP’s statement is nothing but “a figment of the imagination”. According to reports fromThe Guardian:

“For the fourth time in a week, the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ondo State on Friday suffered yet another defeat at the Election Petitions Tribunal sitting in Akure, the state capital…”

The governor and his goons need to know that the people of the state are not fools and capable to reading between the lines. And if he (Dr Agagu) had been smart, and capable of executing people-oriented programs, perhaps he wouldn’t have had to resort to silly media tricks and playing propaganda mind games on newspaper pages.

One thing is becoming clearer despite the spins of the Agagu political machine: The tide is about to turn in the sunshine state of Ondo….in a matter of days. Stay tuned.

The Sun will definitely shine on our Sunshine state soon and very soon. Cant see how, with all the evidences displayed for the whole world to see, any sane minded judge will give a wrong verdict.
As for the Agagu camp, well when a fish finds itself out of water, it gaspes for air and acts irrationally before it fizzles out. Cant wait …MIMIKO IS GOVERNOR, end of story.
