Ondo State: The 2.5 Trillion Naira Investments…Where is it?

On December 4, 2008 / By Imnakoya / In Corruption, Democracy, Nigeria

As one of Ondo State indigenes in the Diaspora, I ought to be ecstatic on reading the news:

“Ondo votes N6 billion to boost commerce”- is the title of the article on Guardian, where the Ondo State governor, Dr Agagu, discloses:

“[Ondo] state is fast becoming an investor haven for both local and foreign investors and so far, this administration has attracted investment worth over N2.5 trillion to Ondo State”.

2.5 trillion naira is a lot of money given that the total budget for Nigeria in 2008 was about 2.7 trillion naira; it is amazing that that kind of money flowed into Ondo state since 2003, if one assumes the governor statement refers to his administration.

Here is the fact, at least based on what is physical and present in the ground for all to see.

The 2.5 trillion mentioned is a fluke!

There is a sharp difference between the Ondo state I know and visit every 12 months and the one described by the governor.

There is no way 2.5 trillion naira be invested in Ondo state economy within five years without experiencing some seismic shifts somewhere…

  1. Good question Imnakoya. “Where is it?” I say GONE WITH THE WIND OF DECEIT, FOOLERY, LOOTING, FALSE ACCLAMATIONS/APPRAISALS and mostly gone into some particular bank accounts.

Seriously, what investments in Ondo State? What development? Me too I visit Ondo State about 3times a year (at least) and I have not seen 0.1% of all these false claims. Only for a while by the grace of God.

  2. Let’s wait and see! We can only hope that this is a move in the right direction.
