Legislators refused to debate power probe report!

On March 21, 2009 / By Imnakoya / In Blogosphere

Many were elated when the Nigerian House of Representatives decided to investigate the stalled power multi-billion dollar project initiated by former president Obasanjo between 1999 and 2007. The House did its investigation — many of the sessions were broadcast live to Nigerian homes, the investigators even visited the sites for the projects to see things with their eyes. The House closed its investigation and worked on its report.

The report — several months after it was finished and submitted to the House leadership — was up for debate earlier this week. It didn’t go well, unfortunately.

234next.con reported what happened, here are some excerpts:

The report of the committee, which it presented to the House in October last year, came up for debate for two days last week after numerous postponements.

During the debate, most members spoke against the consideration of the report amid rowdiness. While some members wanted the debate halted, others said events had overtaken the recommendations of the report.

It was, however, gathered that members, particularly those of the Peoples Democratic Party wanted the report rejected following the intervention of the party leadership.

If any is in doubt who the supposed representatives of the people serve, the answer should be clear now.

Rather than settling down to examine the contents of the report, the House decided to elect another committee to examine the report written by another committee!

When will the redundancy stop? And when will Nigerians be free from the antics of the few lazy, self-centered buffoons we call Representatives and Senators?

  1. “If any is in doubt who the supposed representatives of the people serve, the answer should be clear now”

    Amen.

  2. What else can you add to an already disillusioned mind? This is what the former giant of Africa has now become: A puppet on the string of a particular few under a notorious party. Everything no matter how devastating becomes child’s play to these so called Reps and people especially the Vagabonds in Power, Past & present get away with sheer murder.
    SOS

  3. I read that the 2nd committee constituted to review the report of the 1st came back with nothing! They have been given another week to look for something to share with the House.

Oh, I weep for my motherland….how I wish I had a fatherland to run to and forget about this Nigerian nonsense, eh?

  4. The so called Committees set up knew from the start that they would not need to do anything for between them they know the power probe will be buried asap. Even if 100 committees are set up, there will be Zilch to follow on. The people all know who did what and who will be affected so they will never allow any probe to go on. They will enter the rooms, close the doors, share some dosh, pat one another on the backs and come out laughing. Why, because they see the people they are rulling as mugus i.e. the densest of all fools.

Kenny, no fatherland to run to. Remember Nigeria

First National anthem I learnt calls Nigeria “… our native MOTHERLAND” (Nigeriia we hail thee).

Second National anthem has it that “To serve our FATHELAND with love and strenght and faith”.

Confusion has never been far from us. Dont be surprised at a third anthem that will call Nigeria the CHILD.

We are all going to straighten this mess called Nigeria, we owe this to posterity. Every day for the thief but one day for the owner. All seems lost but its not lost. We shall see to it that Fresh Minds take over, no matter their age. As long as they have the integrity and wisdom factor.

When we stop allowing “Bolekaja” boys to become Senators, Members and Local Government chairmen, we stand a chance.

KENNY FOR NOW I STILL WEEP FOR NIGERIA. THE LAND SO BLESSED BY GOD AND SO CURSED BY BAD LEADERSHIP.
