Ondo State
“While I believe that the private sector should be allowed to blossom and grow the economy, I also believe that government, especially in a Third World country like our own, has its fundamental responsibility to ensure that it intervenes in critical sectors of the economy to ensure that the weakest in the societies are carried along….
I will use power anywhere I find myself in the interest of the majority of the people…The people should expect quality governance, transparency and accountability.”
This is a statement from the new Ondo State governor, Dr Segun Mimiko. And he will be held accountable by all means as the people thirst so badly for leadership.
“the people thirst so badly for leadership” - The people need to be realistic in their thirst for Agagu left a real seriously defective legacy and it is hard work that will make their thirst quenched and not magic. They need to give Mimiko a chance to prove himself, and of course he would (just like Obama in the United States). It is too soon to overpile the pressure on the Governor for he is a human being and doesnt have paranormal means of achieving. MIMIKO WILL DELIVER IN ONDO STATE, so go on, hold him accountable for this is a good thing.
@Imnakoya, maybe your Balance Score Cards will start with Mimiko, if not Fashola first. Peace.

I have high hopes in Mimiko just as majority of Ondo state people. And I agree we can not be delusional in our expectation. What will set the new administration apart and on the path of greatness is putting the extensive human capital of the state to good use. And I’m happy the governor attests to this in the interview.
The scorecard being proposed is best used for the legislature, not the executive branch, I think.

Imnakoya, I beg to differ that the Score cards cannot be put to the best use on the Executive Branch. We are talking of sickness of the head affecting the body, We are talking of regeneration from top down. We have 32 or so states in Nigeria and appraising these 32 governors will be a better result oriented excercise on behalf of the people. What exactly are the legislative arm of government in Nigeria really doing? Fighting? Cutting deals? Blackmailing one another? Much talk less ado? Bragging? I personally havent seen them in effective action. OK the Balance Score Cards could highlight these but on the other hand the BSCs instead of focussing on problems to be righted could also focus on goodness to be promoted and recommended.
Please visit the Mimiko for Governor website and read the latest speech to the people by Governor Mimiko posted by Olaniyi Ekundayo. Governor Mimiko is indeed a man of intelligence and Godly wisdom and will win this fight for justice and fairplay in Ondo State.
What do you think about the Oyo state result yesterday? I didnt bother talking about this for I take it as a forgone conclusion.

The legislators should function as the representatives of the people and very few are doing this. This is why the scorecard is necessary to highlight what each legislator is doing at the assembly and within their constituencies.
The scorecard as proposed is supposed to report what is happening - whether good or bad, objectively.
On Oyo state — really I haven’t been paying attention, but I’m not surprised the incumbent retained his seat

Ah Imnakoya, Nigeria is so wonderfully messed up now that I even forget who these legislators are. Who are they please? Where are they positioned? And what do they do? Meanwhile what are they supposed to be doing. Let us just say that Omotaylor knows, there might be a few people out there who are not in the know or who are as confused as I am. Cheers.

I find this interesting, and please when you read the full post note the first paragraph and compare with the last paragraph. Talk of chasing shadows and talk of a messed up clueless president who will put his rubber stamp to just anything as he intends to rule Nigeria by riding on shoulders of those he thinks are more knowlegeable than him, be they right or wrong. AGAIN I PASS A VOTE OF NO CONFIDENCE ON PRESIDENT YARADUA:
