Turning dreams into reality…

The construction of the world’s longest sea bridge is about to begin in China. The Y-shaped link between Hong Kong, Macau and China will be around 50km (31 miles) long in total, 35km of which will span the sea, according to the state news agency Xinhua. Expected data of completion 2015. Cost: 6.7billion Pound Sterling (73bn Yuan or 11bn USD).

It’s difficult to be hopeful that men and women that can dream big dreams (as this bridge), and make such dreams reality, will emerge in Nigeria in my lifetime!

I read today that the feds have come out to confirm what many already know: the 6,000MW promised Nigerians by the end of the year is not longer possible. If its so difficult to deliver on a meager 6000MW of electricity, then you would understand where I’m coming from!

A top ranking official also revealed that Nigeria has the capacity to generate 5,200MW, and he was pleased that is a pass mark, given it was just 200MW short of the 6,000 mark!

During his campaign, President Yar’Adua promised to declare an emergency in the power sector. The promise is yet to be kept more than two and half years after he assumed office in May 2007.

  1. This is an awesome, jaw-slacking idea. Some can pull off some 50km of high-tech civil engineering on the sea — and the tunnel too, yet we Nigerians can’t fix the Apapa-Oshodi expressway in Lagos, the only link between Nigeria’s major sea-ports and the rest of the country, or the Lagos-Benin expressway, the major link between the western and the eastern corridors.

  2. So called leaders in Nigeria are not interested in developing the country. They would even go as far as threats of impeachment, statements like Yardy ruling Nigeria from a sick bed in Arabia, and all other nonsense as long as there is no leader to stop their thieving corrupt ways, while Nigeria suffers. O ma se o, what a pity. Let’s be honest, most of our leaders dont love us and dont love the country except their oiled and lined pockets and vessels. One day they will be brought to justice. I shiudder to think what Posterity would be like when there are no proper governance to emulate.

“Follow the leader” is the song. But what are the leaders doing? Your guess is as good as mine.
